Rincón de la Vieja contains an active volcano which last erupted in 1991, mud pots, steam vents, hot springs, and has excellent wildlife viewing and birding opportunities. More than 200 species of birds have been observed here. Horseback trips are possible to various points in the park, including close to the summit of the volcano.
