Situated
only 2 km from Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, 1 km from the beautiful river
Lajas, and 100m from a deserted, rocky and sandy beach. El Ancla de Oro
is an ideal base for bird watchers and nature lovers. For the more adventurous
there are hikes to hidden waterfalls, horse tours to the magnificent beaches
of Mal Pais, plus fishing and snorkeling around Cabuya Island. Accommodation
is in traditional thatched cabins, set in lush gardens where you may awake
to the roars of howler monkeys, or the rustle of iguanas on the palm roof.
Cabuya is a haven for bird watchers and nature lovers, with plenty of
areas to explore and walk including Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve. The beach
of Cabuya is safe for swimming at high tide but rocky as the tide goes
out. There are however many sandy beaches within walking distance.
Arranges
can be made for transport from Paquera to Cabuya, US $ 50,-- up to 4 people,
approximately 1.5 hours, or take a bus to Montezuma. If you reserve 2
nights or more, we can arrange free transport from Montezuma to El Ancla
de Oro. However, it is remote and public transport is not easily available
- pick up trucks serve as unofficial bus and taxi. For the less intrepid
traveller or one who is not a keen walker, it is recommended to rent a
four wheel drive vehicle in San Jose.
