Hotel Las Tortugas is a small ecotouristic beach front hotel, located on one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. Playa Grande has been one of the world's principal nesting beaches for the Giant Leatherback Sea Turtle. Louis Wilson, the founder of Hotel Las Tortugas, was instrumental in preserving Playa Grande as one of the world's last functioning, healthy nesting areas for this now highly-endangered species.

Hotel Las Tortugas is perfectly positioned in the center of Playa Grande, just steps from the main peak which is one of Costa Rica's most consistent surf breaks. Guests enjoy the luxury of staying at the only beachfront hotel in the area with pool, jacuzzi, garden with hammocks, and open-air restaurant and bar all just steps away from the water's edge.

This is the only hotel in the area located on the beach in the heart of Playa Grande within steps from the best surf and the park ranger station which offers turtle tours on the months of October through February.

The owners designed and built the hotel themselves and all eleven rooms have A/C and private bathrooms with hot water.

The hotel also offers economy rancho rooms on the property for the traveler on a budget. The rancho rooms all have their own private hotwater baths and air-conditioning and range from $25 to $55 per night.

There's a jacuzzi, swimming pool, outside shower (great for rinsing off after stumbling up off the beach), and a palmfrond rancho with hammocks--all just steps from the sand.

The laid back atmosphere makes Las Tortugas a family paradise. There is a telephone for local and long distance calls, in addition to fax service.

The open air restaurant with roofed decks lets you enjoy delicious seafood and international dishes with wonderful views of the ocean.  Operating hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The bar boasts a large tropical drink menu, and their Playa Grande Margaritas--made with fresh, homegrown limes plucked from the backyard--are a must!!

The restaurant offers you everything from hamburgers and french fries to filet mignon and jumbo shrimp cocktails. For breakfast you can have anything from a full American-style breakfast to light exotic fruit smoothies or tropical fruit plates. For lunch and dinner, our economy plates which are called "casados" (marriages), include fresh local fish (mahi mahi), sirloin, chicken, or rice with heart of palm for vegetarians. Casado dishes come with a small salad, rice and beans.

** NOTE:  Since turtles are sensitive to light, there are no oceanviews to the south where the nesting beach is located. The structure is intended to block light from any future development to the north.
